Nintendo Game Consoles
Nintendo game consoles have been a maintain for Nintendo. These are the most popular ways of home gaming and they always dominate sales over the hand-held market or memorabilia such as shirts and figurines. Nintendo has produce many consoles at an average rate of 1 per 5 years. Here is a quick run-down of the Nintendo game consoles that have been made by Nintendo.
Nintendo Gaming Consoles
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
The first 8-bit console ever released that put Nintendo on the map. It was a bold move by Nintendo to enter a video game market that hit rock bottom two years earlier. They released a home console that planned to entertain millions. Talk about pick the right time. The NES was a dominate force on the market. Classic games such as Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby and Metroid debuted on the NES. This gaming system reigned supreme for more that 7 years.
Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)
The successor to the NES. This was a 16-bit console that was a huge success. Many had wondered if Nintendo could follow up their success with the NES and they did. Classic video game series like Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby and Super Mario continued while new ones were released like Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound and Star Fox were born. This video game system was dominate for roughly another 7 years too.
Nintendo 64 (N64)
The N64 debuted and it started off promising. Sales were huge at first but then rival Sony entered the market with the PlayStation and towards the end of the N64 era, Microsoft entered with the Xbox. The N64 carried on with the classic like Super Mario 64 and Star Fox 64 to name a few and had some good games like Golden Eye, Banjo Kazooie. However, sales were slipping due to competition to Sony and Microsoft.
GameCube
Sony and Microsoft were starting to take control as the GameCube came to the rescue of the N64. The GameCube showed off a lot of promising technology with the game Super Mario Sunshine. This system had a strong selling and couple year run. This was the first system where the games came as discs and not cartridges like the other Nintendo systems.
Wii
Nintendo climbed back to the top with the release of the Wii. This fully interactive system has already sold more than 3x the amount of GameCube systems that were sold by the end of 2009. The Wii Remote allows players to play the game without any wires in the way and can detect motion in a 3D environment.
Nintendo is back on top of the gaming industry with the Wii and hopefully they have learned their lesson not to be so lax this time in technology. Rivals caught and even surpassed Nintendo when they released the N64. Many Nintendo rode the Super Nintendo wave for too long but that’s just a speculation. Props to Nintendo for being knocked down and having the knowledge on how to get back on top of the gaming industry, maybe this time for good.
